Elkhorn South Freshman Tate Odvody has decided to transfer to Omaha Westside. Cornhusker Hoops Report was able to get an interview with Odvody recently about his future with Omaha Westside.
What led you to the decision to transfer?
"My family and I did a lot of research to find what program I would best fit into, and we really like Westside from the basketball program to the learning system they have."
What do you think is the best skill you bring to Westside?
"The best skill I think I bring is just bringing energy to the team and the ability to score and make my teammates around me better."
What do you most look forward to at Westside?
"I look forward to playing with guys like Chandler (Meeks), Reggie (Thomas), Payson (Gillespie) and all of them."
What are you doing to stay ready if summer basketball were to happen?
"Big shoutout to my guy Zach (Lafave), we get work in everyday on his indoor basketball court while he prepares for Wayne State and I prepare for summer."
What AAU team were you planning on playing on this summer?
"I'm going to play with OSA 100%"
What would you like to build off of what many would consider a very good freshman season?
"I would like to continue to build my skills, not necessarily just scoring, but things like defense, quickness, and overall strength."
What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
"I know we are going to be young, and I think next year will be great for building chemistry. I think on top of all this, we have the potential to compete with good teams and hopefully get to compete in state."
Odvody, formerly of Elkhorn South, averaged 12.3 points a game last year, good for 2nd on the team only behind Wayne State basketball commit Zach Lafave. He had a stretch of 12 games in a row scoring in double digits, and scored over 18 points in 9 games in a row last season. He joins a young but talented Omaha Westside squad who graduates Jadin Booth (UNO), Carl Brown (Peru State), and PJ Ngambi (Undecided). They return many key contributors such as Reggie Thomas, Payson Gillespie, Chandler Meeks, and Dominic Rezac. Odvody should be a great addition to a team with a ton of potential. Westside is definitely a team to watch out for the next couple years with young talent.
