Summer basketball is back for teams in the Midwest. We had our first look at some of this year's summer teams this weekend in Council Bluffs at the Iowa West Fieldhouse. The games that I watched were mainly in the 14U Division, where OSA 14U National - Sieg took home the championship. Here is a recap of a couple of the games I watched.

OSA 14U National - Sieg: 59

OSA 14U National - Travis: 56

OSA Sieg kept a consistent 5-6 point lead throughout the game, with the halftime score being 33-26. A Collin Ridder (OSA - Travis) 3 pointer with 1:10 made it a 2 point game. OSA - Sieg was 1/2 at the line, and OSA - Travis had a chance to tie late in the game, but a turnover on the inbounds gave OSA - Sieg the ball and free throws with 1 second left. Connor Mohr (OSA - Travis) was finding success early on, hitting his first 4 threes. He finished with 17 points while shooting 5/9 from deep. Daleron Thomas (OSA - Travis) had a nice game as well. He finished with 13 points and kept them in the game with tough finishes and winning plays. Marcus Glock (OSA - Sieg) put up 17 in the win and showcased his talent for getting putbacks off of offensive rebounds. Harrison Long (OSA - Sieg) showed that he was strong with the ball and could finish through contact. He scored 16. Wes Frost (OSA - Sieg) put his shooting abilty on display, scoring 14 while connecting on 4 of his 7 3's.

OSA 14U National - Sieg: 77

OSA 14U National - Chavis: 41

OSA - Sieg did a better job of sharing the ball in this game and it translated into major success. They had 20 assists on 31 made field goals, with 10 of those being 3 pointers. Wes Frost (OSA - Sieg) again showed his shooting abilty, going 6/10 from the field including 4/7 from 3 and finishing as the game's leading scorer with 16. Camden Monie (OSA - Sieg) had a very efficient game, scoring 15 points while shooting 5/7 from the field (4/5 from 3) and dishing out 3 assists. Kyler Hellbusch (OSA - Sieg) showed great court vision and passing ability, dishing out 5 assists and making it look easy.

Hoop Dreamers Elite 14U: 41

CB Extreme 14U: 37

I only got the chance to catch bits and pieces from this game, but from what I got to see from the Hoop Dreamers, I was impressed. Hoop Dreamers secured a 4 point lead with around :20 seconds left, and was able to dribble out the clock and secure a sport in the championship as the #1 seed after going undefeated in pool play. Dae'vonn Hall (Hoop Dreamers) has great size and strength for his age, and his athleticism is fun to watch. He was throwing down tomahawk dunks and even a windmill in warmups with ease. He is a name to watch in the near future. Clayton Grauff (Hoop Dreamers) is a uber-quick guard who is shifty with the ball and crafty with his finishes.

Championship game:

OSA 14U National - Sieg: 62

Hoop Dreamers Elite 14U: 53

OSA - Sieg got out to an early lead, and forced Hoop Dreamers to call a timeout after a Joey Vieth (OSA - Sieg) corner 3 that put OSA up 18-7. OSA had a 20-point first half lead after a Kyler Hellbusch (OSA - Sieg) floater that made it 29-9 with 7 minutes left in the first half. By halftime, OSA had built a 39-13 lead up and was firmly in control of the game. But Hoop Dreamers had something to say about that. After back to back and-1s layups by Tayvin-Zephier Murphy (Hoop Dreamers), the momentum started to shift. Hoop Dreamers hit a couple 3's, forced a couple turnovers, and before you knew it, the score was 51-45 OSA. A furious comeback made by Hoop Dreamers after being down 26 points at half. But a few small errors at the end of the game and a few things that went OSA's way gave OSA the advantage it needed to pull away and win 62-53. Marcus Glock (OSA - Sieg) proved to be a very good finsher in traffic, as well as being able to hit key free throws late in the game. Kyler Hellbusch (OSA - Sieg) has to be in the conversation for having some of the best court vision and passing abilities in Nebraska's class of 2024. He delivered passes with pinpoint accuracy and could see the court at all times.
