Former Omaha Burke junior Greg Brown has decided to transfer to Bellevue West. Cornhusker Hoops Report was able to get an interview with Brown minutes after his decision was first announced.
What led you to the decision to transfer?
"Burke wasn't a good fit for me.. and Bellevue West was always in the picture."
In your opinion, what is the best skill you bring to Bellevue West?
"Playmaking."
You play summer basketball (Team Factory) with current Bellevue West players Frankie Fidler and Chucky Hepburn, and you clearly have a great friendship with both of them. What does it feel like to get to play with them in the school year as well as the summer?
"It feels great because we know each others strengths and weaknesses, which means we can pick up what they're lacking."
Finally, what is the expectation for this Bellevue West Thunderbirds team this upcoming season?
"Another state championship."
Brown averaged 7.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals last season for Omaha Burke. They finished 10-13 with a season-ending loss to Lincoln Pius X in the 1st round of districts. An ankle injury slowed Brown down late in the season. Bellevue West, on the other hand, won their 1st Class A state championship since 2014 with a thrilling victory over Millard North. Bellevue West loses a couple key pieces to their championship team to graduation, but returns many key pieces such as Chucky Hepburn, Frankie Fidler, and Josiah Dotzler. This addition of Greg Brown is a major get for them, as they now have 4 players who are near the top of their respective classes. Bellevue West will have a major national opponent at the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island next year, the opponent is yet to be announced.
