The end of the Grassroots season marks the time for player rankings to be updated. The rankings are based off of what was observed in the 350+ games attended this Spring/Summer, as well as game film watched over each player. Here are 3 takeaways from the rankings as well as a watchlist of 10 players that could be added in the next update of the rankings.
1. Gretna is built for the future
Gretna's 2024 class has 3 players listed in the Top-20 (#4 Landon Pokorski, #11 Alex Wilcoxsen, #16 Alec Wilkins) and all 3 saw major varsity time this year. And it doesn't stop there, as they also have watchlister Wes Frost. Gretna is shaping up to be a preseason top-10 team this year, and as long as they have this 2024 group on their team, they'll continue to be a team to watch out for.
2. Gretna's 2024 class isn't alone
While Gretna may have the best 2024 class, there are a few other teams that have a strong group of incoming sophomores. Omaha Westside has a strong class as well, as they have #2 Caleb Benning, #7 CJ Mitchell, and #15 Kevin Stubblefield. Bellvue West has #5 Jaden Jackson, #13 Jacob Arop, #14 Eldon Turner, and watchlister Jadyn Cascio-Jensen. Millard North and Lincoln Northstar both have 2 in the rankings and 1 in the watchlist, as the Mustangs have #3 Neal Mosser and #12 Elijah Gaeth as well as watchlister Isaiah McMorris, while Northstar has #6 Jake Hilkeman, #9 Kajuan D'Sidney, and watchlister KG Gatwech.
3. Shooting Ability
This class is stacked with some elite shooters from deep. The ability to shoot is always needed in basketball, but with the pace-and-space, 3's and layups game that so many teams play nowadays, it's even more important. You have your Top-20 ranked snipers like Marcus Glock, Neal Mosser, Jaden Jackson, Will Cooper, Maverick Binder, Alex Wilcoxsen, and Carter Mick. The watchlist has some of the top shooters in the class as well, such as Wes Frost, Jadyn Cascio-Jensen, and Aidyn Zikmund. Of course there are more great shooters in the class, but these are the ones that first come to mind in a deep class.
